Medication management

  • Calcium channel blocker – no. A CCB would be step 1 of treatment if Mark was over 55.
  • Beta blocker – no. This does not follow the BHS guidelines for treatment at this stage of Mark’s management.
  • Diuretic – no. It would not be a first choice of treatment. It would be an option for step 3 of the CHS guidelines.
  • Angiotensin II receptor blocker – no or yes. This would not be first line treatment, unless an ACE inhibitor has not been tolerated. As this is Mark’s first prescription, this information is not available.
  • Ace inhibitor – yes. This is the correct 1st line treatment for someone under the age of 55..
  • Statin – yes. This is the recommended 1st line drug of choice in SIGN 97.
