ECHO: moderate LVSD with regional wall motion abnormality

This demonstrates that Joans heart has been damaged due to anterior myocardial infarction (heart attack) she has experienced. The left ventricular function has been decreased and on echo this is shown by measuring and observing the left ventricle working (See module 6). This is a common result of patients experiencing a STEMI.

Pulmonary oedema resolved

This confirms that Joan has resolved the fluid that had gathered in her lungs as a result of the pumping action of the heart being affected acutely due to her anterior MI. Stent implantation has also restored the blood flow to the heart muscle so it is able to pump more effectively, despite being damaged.

No symptoms of heart failure

Joan is not displaying or telling the staff that she has any symptoms of ongoing breathlessness, fatigue or oedema. These will be discussed further in Module 6.

Diuretics discontinued

As a result of her heart pumping more efficiently than it was and the fluid reducing in her lungs, Joan no longer requires to receive diuretics although further ongoing assessment will be important now that these are discontinued. This may include symptom monitoring, chest auscultation and daily weights. This will be discussed further in Module 6.
