Blood Pressure

Jean has left arm weakness.

Q. Jean has left arm weakness. Which arm would you use to measure her blood pressure?

Right arm

Left arm

Both arms

At the moment there is no evidence to suggest that one arm (either affected or non-affected side) is better than the other. However, in order to control for possible inter-arm differences it is considered important to check  BP initially in both arms at least once. And if different it should be checked consistently in the arm giving the highest reading. Care must be taken to ensure the right size of blood pressure cuff is used.
