Scene 1 Dorothy and Stan on Ward 10 Stroke Ward (sign with ward 10 in background)
Stan- ‘Hello love how are you? I’ve brought in some bits and pieces you asked for. I’ll just have a quick word with the nurses and then we’ll go down to the cafe, OK?’
Scene 2 Dorothy and Stan arriving in hospital cafe
D- “ So Stan what are you after? A large cappuccino as usual and I see they’ve got those muffins you like- do you want one?”
S- “ You’ve read my mind, that sounds perfect and what about you?”
D- “You know I’m not a big coffee fan like you I can still see the look on your face the first time you had a cappaccino in that fancy coffee shop in Edinburgh- milky tea with two sugars for me and a wee packet of that shortbread I like if they’ve got it”
Scene 3 Dorothy and Stan at table in Cafe with their order
S- “So that’s good news the nurse was just telling me they’re hoping you’ll be home in a few days. She says you were delighted when the Doctor told you on the ward round earlier. I’m surprised you didn’t mention it.”
D- “Yeah getting home would be great. Now you mention it I did see the Doctor earlier but for the life of me I cant remember what she said; it’s all a bit of a blur in here sometimes and there’s so much to take in. Anyway what about Katie did she get some shoes for Susan’s wedding, she’s been going on about it for months?”
S- “Aye, I told you yesterday she did and she sent you a picture – remember?”
D- “Och, it must have slipped my mind and did you remember the toiletries I asked for ?”
S- “Yes, I told you when I came in love.”
Scene 4- Back on ward. S is with Nurse.
S- She seems to be getting on great but i’m wondering if she’s a bit confused. She’s remembering some things no problem at all but forgetting others.
S/N – Yes, we’ve noticed she can be a bit forgetful. The OT’s have her timetabled to do some screening to look at her cognitive skills- you know memory and concentration and such like- that should give us more info.
