What does Joan’s rehabilitation programme entail?

Joan has been working on the ward with the nurses over the weekend and managing well. On Monday, the therapists return to work with Joan to assist her with her recovery.

07.00 She is hoisted out of bed into a chair 12.00 She gets up with the nurses and sits in a wheelchair and goes through to the dining room for lunch and interacts with other patients
08.00 She has her breakfast sitting in the chair 13.00 Joan is brought back into the ward
08.45 She is hoisted from the chair to a shower chair and the nurses take her to the shower 13.30 She goes for speech therapy
09.15 She is transferred by hoist back to bed after shower 14.30 Her visitors arrive
09.30 The occupational therapist visits to do dressing practice and transfers Joan back into her chair 16.30 Her visitors leave
10.15 Physiotherapists transfer her into a wheelchair and take her to the gym for physical therapy 17.15 She has supper in the dining room and then goes to the day room to watch television with the other patients
11.00 She returns to the unit and has a cup of coffee 19.00 The nursing staff assist her to undress and return to bed
11.30 She returns to bed for a rest, but the ward round disturbed her 19.30 Joan sits up again as her visitors return
21.00 Her visitors leave
