Considerations for staff – All staff involved in managing Alan’s practice in the ward need to know how best to assist him and on what to monitor for.

Considerations for Alan – Alan needs to be taught how to walk with a stick, what he needs to concentrate on when walking in the ward and advised that he should only walk with a member of staff present.

Guidance on the amount of practice – There should be clear guidance on the distance to be walked and how much practice Alan should be doing.

Reviewing and monitoring of ward based practice – There should be a nominated person that staff can contact with any concerns or issues about his ward based practice. This person also monitors progress in the ward to facilitate progression and prevent any detrimental issues.
