Smoking (Contemplation)
I would tell Jason that it is easy to stop smoking if he uses a nicotine patch. – False – although this may be true for some people, it may not be suitable or helpful for Jason. You should engage Jason in the process of deciding what the best support is for him.
I would consider delivering a ‘brief intervention’ regarding his smoking cessation. – True – this would be ideal for Jason as it would allow you to give him advice, enable him to assess his lifestyle factors and give him encouragement.
I would speak to his partner and ask her to throw out all the cigarettes in the house. – False – whilst this might seem like a simple solution, Jason would be unlikely to find this useful in the long run as he needs to be motivated to change his habits and have a plan in place to address his smoking addiction.
