Case notes – results of visual screening

  • Ocular history – glasses 4 years old, possibly mild cataract both eyes, drives.
  • Confrontation test – good concentration throughout assessment. Could not see the stimuli coming from his left until positioned centrally. All were seen normally to his right.
  • Neglect test – initially slow responses to his left, but all lines identified and crossed.
  • Functional assessment – understood the visual cues. Used cues well and dressed without physical assistance.
  • Eye movements – normal.

  • Ocular history – cataract surgery left eye 18 months ago and glasses updated then, drives.
  • Confrontation test – somewhat inconsistent responses with focus often drifting to the right. He did not respond to the target on the left hand side, but responded early when target presented on his right side.
  • Neglect test – crossed lines to his right only.
  • Functional assessment – understood the visual cues, required assistance to complete the dressing task.
  • Eye movements – normal.
