Poor self-monitoring? – Yes this may have an impact. While Ray has managed to get all the items on the shopping list he has broken the rules a couple of times e.g. he went the wrong way down aisles. Mistakes such as these are often due to poor self-monitoring i.e. not checking your performance against what the task requires.
Impaired hearing? – This shouldn’t create any particular problems on this task.
Poor vision? – Obviously this task wouldn’t be suitable for individuals with significant visual problems but Ray’s sight is fine.
Visual memory problems? – This could create some problems on this task but you could probably get round them with good planning, besides on other assessments Ray doesn’t show particular problems with visual memory.
Poor visuo-spatial processing? – This could certainly create difficulties on this task but Ray had no particular difficulties on measures of visuo-spatial processing.
Impulsivity? – Yes this could create difficulties. This is a relatively complex task and most people would need to take some time to plan their route. Ray rather jumped in without thinking and then realised he’d got himself in a bit of a muddle- this may well reflect a degree of impulsivity.
Poor effort? – In order to do well on any cognitive assessment individuals must put forward sufficient effort i.e. try hard or give their best – if they don’t the results could be invalid. Ray showed good effort throughout the assessment.
Poor planning? – Yes, this could help explain Ray’s relatively poor solution. You can see that he’s taken very little time to plan and unlike the ‘good’ solution hasn’t highlighted the items he’s to get.
