Q. How are you today Mary?
Not great, Doctor.
Q. What’s bothering you?
I’m not getting any better and I’m worried what’s going to happen to me.
Q. Is there anything in particular that you are worried about?
I’m not managing to do things for myself and I’m worried I’ll never get home. I’m going to be a burden to my family.
Q. Medically you’re doing really well, and the therapists say you’re improving.
Not very well, it’s like … I can’t switch my brain off, thinking how bad it all is.
Q. How do you feel you are doing with your therapy sessions?
Some bits are okay I suppose, like going to the gym, but I still can’t dress myself. I can’t even do simple things.
Q. How are you sleeping?
Well, they say that but I’m getting really frustrated and angry that I’m not getting on better.
Q. Can I ask you some specific questions about your mood? Would it be okay to speak to your family to see if they notice any changes in you since your stroke?
Okay, Doctor, if you think that’ll help.
