Post therapy

HADS – Anxiety: 7/21; Depression: 5/21

Goals

Spend time playing with the kids – baking, playing at the park, art/making things, film nights

  • I’ve made cakes with the kids a few times now. If we’re doing something new, I make sure that I read the recipe through in advance, when it’s quiet, and make sure that I’ve got all the steps in the right order. To start with, I weighed things out in advance. I tick steps off as I go.
  • We plan in a fun family activity every week – normally at the weekend when my partner is around too. We’ve had a movie night, and also been to the coast for the day. I’ve found it’s helpful to do a little bit of preparation every day in advance – then it’s not such a mad rush on the day, and I can cope even if I’m fatigued.

Socialise with my friends – go out for a meal, go shopping

  • I’ve enjoyed going out for lunch and coffee with the girls. I’ve been too tired and it’s been too noisy to go out for dinner at the weekend yet, but I’m still working towards that.
  • I tried going to a yoga class with a friend. It’s not something I would normally do, but I enjoyed it and it was a good way to see my friend too. It’s made me think that perhaps there are other new things I could try too.

Start running again

  • This has been really hard, but I’ve started. I’ve run with my neighbour and just recently gone for a run by myself. I told my partner where I was going. I’m still walking for a rest along the way, and it’s frustrating that I’m not going as far as I used to, but it feels good to be outside.

Take back some of my responsibilities at home from my partner – e.g. plan a break for us as a family at half term

  • I was pleased with how I’ve managed this – I’m doing more organising at home – keeping on top of what we need from the supermarket, paying the bills. I managed to research and compare lots of different options to find us a good deal for a holiday at half term. This has made me feel more like myself.
