Stroke Training and Awareness Resources (STARs)

Three months later

Three months later when Bev visits Bob again she asks how he has been getting on.

Scene 1

NURSE: How are you getting on?

BOB: The pain is a bit better but it hasn’t gone completely.

Scene 2

NURSE: Have you tried any of the strategies we spoke about at my last visit?

BOB: Yes, I’ve joined a stroke club and do my relaxation exercises every night. We changed the shower head so that the pressure is less and I’ve bought some tighter fitting cotton shirts.

Scene 3

NURSE: Is the medication helping?

BOB: Yes, I am on amitriptyline at night and it definitely helps.

Scene 4

NURSE: How would you rate your pain now? It was a “10” last time we met.

BOB: I feel most days it is a “6” and I feel I am ready to start bowling again.

Scene 5

NURSE: Hopefully things will continue to improve and I will see you again in 6 months.

BOB: Thank you, Bev.
