Infective endocarditis – approaches to treatment

  • Intravenous antibiotics for several weeks
  • Replacement of the affected heart valve(s), ideally once the infection is controlled.
  • Avoiding anticoagulation which increases risk of intracranial bleeding
  • Possible use of antiplatelet drugs
