Diet [Pre-contemplation]
- My wife used to do the cooking, I do it all myself now and it’s mostly fry-ups
- I eat at my daughter’s once a week. we have a lovely roast dinner, lots of buttery mash and gravy.
- I don’t like all that healthy stuff, it looks like what you would feed a rabbit
Physical activity [preparation/planning]
- Since I stopped working, I’ve been doing a lot less exercise but I would like to get fitter
- Since my wife died I’ve been a bit of a recluse. A walking group would probably help me meet more people.
- I’d like to take the grandchildren swimming in the school holidays
Smoking [preparation/planning]
- Since retiring I’ve noticed how expensive cigarettes are to buy and I’ve been thinking about stopping.
- I’ve stopped smoking around the grandchildren.
- My brother smoked for years and he has angina. I’ve been trying to cut down as I don’t want to end up like him
Alcohol [Maintenance]
- When I first lost my wife, I was drinking a bit much but I got it under control
- I used to have a couple of double whiskys to help me sleep but now I just have a small glass of wine on week nights.
- I only have one beer at the football on a Saturday, I used to have 3 or 4
Mood [contemplation/thinking]
- I still have days where I feel very sad about my wife and sometimes I just can’t be bothered with anything.
- My son and daughter are great. I see them every weekend but weekdays can be lonely
- I suppose feeling low does affect what I do, like I tend to smoke more during the week. I’ve been thinking what might help my mood so I don’t smoke as much.
