Bryan’s results:

  • normal regular pulse
  • normal ECG
  • BMI: raised BMI 31
  • blood results awaited
RIGHT WRONG
  • Waist circumference -central obesity measured by waist ciscumference) is a better predictor of cardiovascular disease than BMI
  • ETT -is currently recognised as an appropriate test to investigate for stable angina.
  • Echo -is not required at this stage unless the GP detects abnormal heart sounds.
  • Troponin -is only required for suspected acute coronary syndrome (see module 4) not for suspected stable angina.
  • Clotting screen -is not normallly required at this stage unless there is a clinical reason for doing so.
  • Endoscopy -it is more important to investigate cardiac cause than a Gastrointestinal cause.
  • Chest xray -it is not required at this stage unless there is another clinical indication.
  • Depression -if depression is suspected this should be documented and followed up appropriately later by the GP
