Palliative care approach

Based on the WHO definition: from the patient examples highlighted below, who would you consider appropriate for a palliative care approach?

  • Gary, age 40 with congenital valve disease that makes him very tired, dizzy and breathless at times. Yes
  • Maureen, age 62, diagnosed with heart failure 3 years ago. Now on maximum medication and is on the waiting list for a cardiac transplant. Yes
  • John, age 85 with intractable angina. He has chest pain on a daily basis although remains independent and looks after his elderly wife. Yes
  • Sarah, age 55, recently suffered an anterior myocardial infarction and underwent coronary stenting to her artery. Yes
  • Answer to all yes feedback FOR ALL: (each name separately) Each one of these individuals will benefit from a supportive and palliative care approach to their care. The amount of care required and time of delivery will be at a different stage of illness for each individual.
